Our research group and others have repeatedly shown large effects on learning for Internet-based training programs. It can also save time, money and other resources if implemented right.
Just like with other training modes – face-to-face, lectures, workshops – not all online training programs are of similar quality. Many e-learning programs just take the content of print materials and ‘shovel’ it onto web pages.
That doesn’t make for good quality e-learning, and those types of training programs are less likely to get the results that you want.
